MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE - I'm reminded that it is in connecting that we realize that we are more alike than we are different -Maya Angelou.
The scripture that comes to my mind when I read this is "for I have learned that whatsoever state I am therewith to be content" Philippians. Then I'm drawn to a quote by John Bradford that we so often refer to as scripture - "There but for the grace of God go I". In other words it is not until we remove the mask and begin to breathe the breath of life that we understand that we all face many of the same issues and have been touched by many of the same things. The early church forced us to cover up the weight of life and pretend that true salvation meant not having any issues. We took scripture like “Fear not, I have overcome the world” and pretended that the weight of life couldn’t and wouldn’t touch anyone who proclaimed salvation. When in reality, if we truly understand who God is and we allow Him to be God in our life, than we understand that being touched with the infirmities of others is inevitable. But it is through the renewing of your mind, mind change, letting the mind that is in Christ Jesus also be in you that we learn how to respond to the issues and infirmities we encounter.
Having been a victim of domestic violence, molestation, drugs, and lying, I can stand firm and say, everything that has every touched my life was because I would one day be used to deliver someone else bound. Learning to be content in whatever state I find myself has allowed me to live without condemnation. Another scripture that I love is “From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love” Ephesians 4:16. Simply put, I can’t live without you. It is through connecting that we are made whole, flaws and all. However, just as the hand must be attached to the arm to work properly, so it is in the body of Christ. We often think there is a problem between our sisters when in fact I may be an arm and you may be a leg. In other words it is all the other parts that are needed for us to be whole and strong. My motto – I AM YOU, YOU ARE ME, AND TOGETHER WE ARE “REAL WOMEN WITH REAL WEIGHT
