MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE: “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;” 2 Peter 1:5-6

We often here that God has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness. In a quest to really understand what this meant I began to do my own research. In doing so, I discovered that there are three things we are given that make this scripture true. Those three things are Stability, Reality and Vitality. The scriptures reveal to us that if we truly begin to follow the principles of God we will have no lack because of these three virtues. Today’s cup of coffee let’s us know that if we believe that God has given us everything, as promised, then we have faith. But; that we need to add to the faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge, to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance. I believe this to be a formula for life, one that we should pass on to our children and to our children’s children. Often we have perseverance without knowledge of the full journey, or self-control. I think it is interesting that to have self-control you need knowledge and to have perseverance you must have self-control. It is important to understand that even though we are told these things, we still have a choice. In other words, I may have a gift for you, but if you refuse to take it, it’s still a gift, just not yours. God has given us everything but we must recognize these things as a benefit and begin to make full use of them. “For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith”.
