JUST US!

MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE - Driving into work this morning listening to the same station I listen to most mornings my ears hone in on an advertisement that was different from usual. The commercials I most often hear are encouraging me to go on vacation or take a cruise because I deserve a break today. Instead what I heard was three (3) out of five (5) kids go to school hungry in the state of Maryland lowering their academic ability to achieve to a higher level. Then I heard that there is a test that should be given to our kids at early stages of development for detection of lead poisoning. That in Washington D.C the 2nd test usually reveals early stages of lead poisoning in our kids.

I wondered why this was a late summer commercial and not a monthly commercial I heard on the same station I listen to most mornings. Could it be because we rank our children’s health right up there with the need to take a vacation once a year, or because funding only provides for so many advertisements from local non-profit organizations that are providing the ads? Perhaps the non-profit has to decide when you and I are likely to listen. If any of these things holds true our children are in trouble and have been for a long time.

Who should demand better the local government or “us”? Oh, wait a minute isn’t the local government “us”. On Social Media we proclaim gods word, we encourage one another to pray, and we tell jokes to get each other through the day. We show whimsical and colorful life-scapes to help you fantasize about who you are and where you are. Now don’t get me wrong, all of these things are good and can be great but perhaps we need to spend more time asking the government, I mean them, no I mean “us” about the children, about our future, about our legacy. Maybe we need to make sure we encourage “US” one another to VOTE.

I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE……SHOW THEM ALL THE LOVE…….REMIND US HOW IT USE TO BE……..
